FCI Victorville Medium II is the second of two medium-security prisons that, together with a high-security penitentiary and a satellite camp, make up the Victorville federal complex in San Bernardino County, California. It went into operation in 2004 as the Bureau of Prisons converted the former George Air Force Base site into a multi-facility prison campus, shifting large numbers of inmates in from other overcrowded institutions on the West Coast. Medium II holds male offenders and has historically run with a population in the neighborhood of twelve to thirteen hundred men, making it one of the larger medium-security institutions in the federal system. Because it shares grounds and administration with the other Victorville facilities, it doesn't have a separate founding story of its own beyond the complex's history.
