FCI Oakdale II is the second of the low-security institutions that make up the Federal Correctional Complex in Oakdale, Louisiana, opening around 1990 as an expansion alongside the original FCI Oakdale I and the complex's detention center. Built to add capacity in the same rural, formerly agricultural stretch of Allen Parish, it shares infrastructure, staffing, and administration with its sister facilities on the same grounds. Because it opened after the turmoil of Oakdale I's 1987 riot and rebuild, Oakdale II has less of a dramatic individual history of its own; it has functioned more steadily as a standard low-security prison for male inmates. Like the rest of the complex, it was affected by the severe COVID-19 outbreak that swept through the Oakdale facilities in the spring of 2020, one of the deadliest recorded in the federal prison system at that time, which brought national attention and legal challenges to how the complex managed testing and inmate isolation. It continues to operate today as part of the broader Oakdale complex.
